The FTC alleged Arise overstated earnings from its platform
Arise Virtual Solutions marketed remote customer service work as a business opportunity. The FTC alleged that advertisements promised access to jobs paying up to $18 per hour. When Arise began using that figure in 2020, its internal documents showed average platform pay of $12 per hour. From 2019 through 2022, 99.9% of consumers on the platform earned less than $18 per hour in hourly base pay.
The complaint also alleged that the advertised figures did not account for worker expenses. Consumers had to purchase equipment, were charged as much as $250 for required training until July 2022, and paid nearly $40 each month in mandatory fees. The FTC also charged Arise with failing to provide disclosures required by the Business Opportunity Rule.
A July 2024 settlement prohibited unsubstantiated earnings claims and required Arise to pay $7 million to compensate affected consumers. In August 2025, the FTC sent more than $6.7 million to 98,254 consumers. The 2024 release also reported concurrent Department of Labor litigation over separate worker classification allegations.
