Court found deceptive claims in a money-making system
John Beck Amazing Profits LLC marketed John Beck’s Free & Clear Real Estate System through infomercials. The system cost $39.95. The court found that defendants falsely represented that consumers could buy homes at tax sales in their own areas for pennies on the dollar and make money easily with little financial investment. Nearly all consumers who bought the systems covered by the case lost money.
Buyers were also automatically enrolled in continuity programs costing an additional $39.95 per month. The court found that the defendants did not adequately disclose the enrollment and submitted payment information without consumers’ express informed consent. Defendants also offered personal coaching costing as much as $14,995. The court found that almost all coaching buyers lost money despite claims that coaching would help them quickly recover its cost and improve their chances of making money.
In April 2012, the district court granted summary judgment. It found John Beck Amazing Profits LLC and four other corporate defendants liable for misrepresentations in infomercials and telemarketing. The court also found John Beck liable for misrepresentations concerning his own system.
In August 2012, the court ordered marketers of three systems, including the John Beck program, to pay $478 million. The order also imposed lifetime infomercial and telemarketing bans on three defendants. In June 2025, the FTC announced more than $2 million in refunds to 39,500 consumers affected by the three kits and coaching programs. That refund total was not allocated among the programs.
