A settlement barred business coaching promotions
The FTC named Steven J. Bransfield among affiliate marketers accused of recruiting consumers into My Online Business Education, known as MOBE. The program sold business coaching and investment mentoring. According to the FTC’s complaints, the defendants enticed thousands of consumers to pay as much as $60,000 for mentoring services by using false earnings claims and misleading testimonials. The agency said most buyers did not recoup their costs and many experienced losses or mounting debts.
The supplied sweep release identifies Bransfield as one of the named affiliate defendants. It does not tie the other named defendants’ separate programs, merchant-account conduct, or payment amounts to him, so those details are excluded here.
A settlement order permanently banned Bransfield from selling or marketing any business coaching program or money-making method as defined in the order. The order against Bransfield and his companies imposed a $4.7 million judgment, which the release says was suspended because of inability to pay. The full judgment would become due if the defendants were found to have misrepresented their financial condition. The release also states that Bransfield filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August 2019. No payment amount required from Bransfield is stated, so no redress-ordered amount is recorded.
What is not established
The documents report FTC allegations and a stipulated settlement order. They do not report a finding after trial or state that Bransfield admitted the allegations.
