FTC action ended in settlement and refunds
The FTC alleged that 8 Figure Dream Lifestyle and its co-defendants used illegal robocalls, live calls, text messages, internet advertising, email, social media, and live events to market money-making opportunities. According to the agency, the defendants made false or unsupported claims about how much buyers could earn. Consumers rarely earned substantial income, typically lost their investment, and sometimes incurred loans and credit card debt totaling tens of thousands of dollars.
A 2020 FTC release reported that the defendants had settled the 2019 charges through two stipulated final orders. The orders barred the defendants from selling money-making methods or business coaching programs. Nine defendants were also barred from most robocalling, and three were barred from selling investment opportunities. The orders imposed judgments totaling more than $32 million, partially suspended based on the defendants’ inability to pay. The defendants surrendered assets totaling more than $1.25 million.
In October 2021, the FTC said it was returning more than $1.1 million to 2,506 consumers. The payments averaged $460 and were funded by money the defendants surrendered.
